The Project Brief

IDEA is a nonprofit that opens doors for Deaf learners through education, community programs, and donor-supported initiatives. Email is their lifeline to supporters—but for years, it was stuck in a print-era mindset.

Newsletters went out as PDF attachments—basically digital photocopies of print mailers. The content was solid, but the format wasn't built for how people actually read email. On mobile, supporters got dense, image-heavy PDFs with buried CTAs and no clear way to engage. Internally, big campaigns turned into all-hands scrambles.

IDEA needed digital-first emails—easy to scan, easy to act on, and easier to produce.

The Solution

The goal was clear: modernize IDEA’s emails without disrupting IDEA’s existing tools or stretching the team too thin. It was time for a better system—and a partner who could help build it.

In early 2025, Four13 embedded into IDEA’s existing workflow. Instead of forcing a migration, Four13 stayed within IDEA’s existing email platform. The engagement started with strategy: understanding IDEA's campaign calendar, audience, and internal capacity. 

From there, Four13 restructured how content flowed from long-form storytelling into email-ready formats. Dense newsletter copy became skimmable highlights that still linked back to the full story.

For IDEA’s annual holiday fundraising campaign, Four13 handled end-to-end production: creative development, email builds, QA, and launch coordination. This gave IDEA's team room to focus on donor relationships instead of email assembly.
